Immigrant Illustration

Digital/Krita/Pen Tablet

This was part of series I did for a children's book called "Sleep Well, Child of God" by Brandy Champeau. It was meant to convey a spirit of freedom and adventure, so I chose my color palette in blues and browns for the sense of pilgrimage, and focused on making the picture seem open and friendly. The woman herself was referenced from pictures I found of real immigrants on ellis island. In the background, I used the Statue of Liberty to further the idea of freedom, because the buildings of ellis island aren't as powerful.
